与乐器之王钢琴不同，专门为独奏小提琴创作的作品只占很小的比例。众所周知，钢琴独奏音乐会就是纯钢琴的独奏演出。然而，小提琴独奏音乐会通常是小提琴与钢琴的二重奏。由于小提琴主要是一种单旋律乐器，对于小提琴演奏者来说，研习独奏作品始终是一项特殊的挑战，原因很简单，因为大多数小提琴独奏作品既要包含旋律线条，又要涵盖通常由钢琴演奏的伴奏部分……
尽管数百年来在古典音乐领域一直存在着演奏者与作曲家合二为一的传统，但遗憾的是，这一习俗在20世纪逐渐式微。不过，我们很幸运能拥有一些最伟大的小提琴大师，包括克莱斯勒、海菲茨和米尔斯坦，他们为自己的乐器创作或改编了许多作品。虽然克莱斯勒除了为一些小提琴协奏曲创作华彩乐段外，很少创作独奏作品，但他的《宣叙调与诙谐随想曲》无疑是所有著名的维也纳风格作品中最受欢迎的作品之一。而米尔斯坦的《帕格尼尼主题变奏曲》巧妙地基于帕格尼尼的变奏曲创作而成，堪称一位小提琴大师对这位有史以来标志性小提琴家的致敬之作。

Unlike the piano, the king of instruments, only a small percentage of works has been written for solo violin. As everyone knows, a piano recital is a recital for solo piano. A violin recital, however, is usually a duet for violin & piano. Since the violin is mainly a single-melody-instrument, it is always a special challenge for the violinist to study the solo works, simply because most of them comprise both the melodic line & the accompaniment normally given to the piano.....
Although it was a tradition in classical music for centuries that performer & composer were 1 & the same person, this custom sadly faded in the 20th century. But we are fortunate in having some of the greatest masters of the violin, including Kreisler, Heifetz & Milstein, who composed or arranged many pieces for their instrument. Although Kreisler composed few solo pieces except his cadenzas for a number of violin concertos, his Recitative & Scherzo-Caprice is surely 1 of the most popular pieces among all those famous Viennese desserts. And the Paganiniana by Milstein, so cleverly based on variations by Paganini, forms a violin master's tribute to the all-time iconic violinist.
