Poncho Sanchez则在一九五一年出生，以敲击刚加鼓和演唱Salsa乐曲享誉全球。二○○○年更凭作品《Latin Soul》获格林美「最佳拉丁爵士乐大奖」，也被誉为美国当代最出色的敲击乐手。
拉丁爵士领域中还有两位不可多得的打击乐手：Tito Puente 与 Poncho Sanchez。舞台上 Tito Puente 打著小鼓，快乐得与台下分享音乐的喜悦。而 Poncho Sanchez 则是以变化多端的节奏与康迦鼓与拉丁鼓掳获乐迷的心。Tito 在『 Salsa Salsa 』专辑中一首超级名曲「O Ye Como Va」就让人直呼过癮。还有「Salsa Salsa」与「Babarabatiri」也因为加入节奏感十足的演唱与合唱，就像享受龙舌兰酒与呛辣拉丁美食般的刺激过癮。另外在他的精选专辑『 Tito Puente – The Best of Concord Years 』中，拉丁版的「Take Five」、「Spain」与「Tokyo Blues」，一连24首乐曲，保证聆赏味十足。

Conga player Poncho Sanchez has been one of the leaders in Latin jazz for a decade. This outstanding studio recording delivers the excitement with the addition of special guest Mongo Santamaria on "Watermelon Man" and several originals. Great solos by trumpeter Stan "Be Bop" Martin and baritone saxophonist Scott Martin add spice to the lively percussion of Sanchez and his group.

Conga Blue features Poncho’s lifelong mentor: the great Mongo Santamaria. Mongo has been such an important influence on Poncho, he named his first son after him. The audio sample “Besame Mama,” was written by Mongo Santamaria. This album was recorded on November 13, 14, 1995, at the Group IV studios in Hollywood, California.
